My Father’s Legacy

Justin Hyatt

Founder Justin Hyatt grew up in the construction industry, working alongside his father, Gerald Hyatt, in North Carolina. In 2011, Justin moved to Austin, where he founded G Hyatt Construction, named after his father. The company has grown from a small family business into a multimillion-dollar firm handling large public and private projects. Now known for delivering projects on time and on budget, G Hyatt Construction faced early challenges getting established in Texas. When Justin launched the business, securing the working capital and bonding capacity needed to win larger contracts was a major hurdle. He turned to the SBA for support.

Hyatt met with the SBA’s local resource partner, the Texas State University Small Business Development Center (SBDC), which helped him develop a business plan and secure an initial $1 million bond. That bonding capacity later grew to $5 million, enabling G Hyatt Construction to pursue high-value municipal and state contracts. The company also sought working capital through an SBA 7(a) loan to hire the workforce and purchase the materials needed to complete those jobs. Without that early funding and bonding support, G Hyatt Construction would have faced significant barriers to competing for large-scale projects. Hyatt has remained a long-term client of the Texas State University SBDC and has obtained additional SBA 7(a) loans over the years. Those resources helped fuel the company’s growth, from zero sales to approximately $25 million in annual revenue, with more than $93 million in total revenue growth from 2022 through 2025.

G Hyatt has completed a wide range of projects, including parks, police stations, senior centers, apartments, streetscapes, office buildings, pools, community centers, substations, schools, dormitories, hotels, visitors centers, with more projects on the horizon. The company employs 61 full-time employees and works with 194 contract workers.

Clients consistently attest to the team’s professionalism, competence, and integrity, as well as its problem-solving approach throughout every phase of a project. G Hyatt Construction has built a reputation for a job well done. Justin attributes those skills, values, and commitment to quality to lessons he learned from his father. They also helped earn G Hyatt Construction the SBA’s newest distinction: Blue-Collar Small Business of the Year.
