AccuRounds: Precision Manufacturing Ramping up at Home

Tariffs helped bring back work lost to overseas manufacturers

For 50 years, AccuRounds has built high-precision shafts, pins, valves, and components that support critical industries—from medical and aerospace to semiconductors, defense, and robotics. 

The second-generation family business employs over 60 people and operates 57 CNC machines in its 45,000-square-foot facility located in Avon, Massachusetts.  Its work is essential to products used around the world, including equipment that supports production of the flu vaccine.

When COVID-19 created unprecedented pressure on manufacturers, AccuRounds remained open as an essential business. Support from the Small Business Administration’s Paycheck Protection Program helped the company retain its workforce, maintain operations, and meet increased customer demand.

“The Paycheck Protection Program was the biggest support we’ve ever received from the SBA,” said President and CEO Michael Tamasi. “The PPP helped us stay in business – ultimately supporting us in ramping up production and expanding during a challenging time.”

Rather than simply surviving the disruption, AccuRounds grew 50% in the three years following COVID. 

Tariff policies, although with pros and cons, have also made a difference for this manufacturer, “bringing back work lost to overseas competition – 5, 10, 15 years ago,” said Tamasi.  “Whether that’s coincidence or not, can be up to somebody’s determination.  We lost work to Singapore and China that has now been reshored back to AccuRounds.”

The company grew about 20% this year, some of that growth is related to bringing the manufacturing of those products back to the States.  Today, the company continues to invest in advanced manufacturing technology — including automation, robotics, machine monitoring, and AI-enabled inspection. 

AccuRounds also gives back by supporting manufacturing education, sponsoring robotics programs, providing teacher externships, hosting student tours to explore careers, and helping connect workers with skilled job opportunities.
